Ben Berkowitz Director and Co-Writer


Ben Berkowitz

is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Berkowitz directed and co-wrote his first critically acclaimed feature film, Straightman with Polish Bar co-writer/producer and Benzfilm partner Ben Redgrave. The film premiered at Berlinale and was a festival hit winning best screenplay and special jury prizes at both OUTFEST and the NYC Newfest. A multiple award winner, Straightman was recently rereleased by Waterbearer films for DVD and digital media. Ben also produced the Sundance documentary Rockets Redglare! with actor Steve Buscemi, additionally featuring Matt Dillon and Willem Dafoe. Along with Studs Terkel, Ben also produced Nice Bombs, an Iraq documentary funded by The Playboy Foundation’s Kristie Hefner, and Robert Deniro’s Tribeca All-Access Film Program. Berkowitz also co-produced the Sundance feature Half-life. Currently Berkowitz is writing for NBC Universal Television and developing his next feature directing project for production in 2012.




Effie Brown Producer

Los Angeles based producer

Effie T. Brown

received a degree in film production and theater from Loyola Marymount University before going on to participate in Film Independent’s (formerly IFP/Los Angeles) Project Involve. There she received an invaluable introduction to the film industry and quickly worked her way up through the ranks to become the award winning producer of such films Stranger Inside, Real Women Have Curves, Everyday People, In the Cut and Rocket Science.
